The Durian Bakery started from one's craving for authentic-tasting durian dessert. This all started when she realised that most durian desserts tend to bury the fruit’s true flavour beneath layers of cream and sugar, or use watered-down pastes that rob it of its unique character. Thus, she set out on a mission to redefine durian desserts. During a time of animosity when the world was battling Covid-19, she saw an opportunity amid the uncertainty and started to hone her skills by renting a small kitchen and training at At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy.

Now moving on to her creations, at the heart of it lies the secret ingredient: the SilkyGold™ Durian Purée made purely from Mao Shan Wang durians and cold-processed to preserve every bit of its natural fragrance and velvety richness. The best thing is that they only source their durians from Pahang, Malaysia, and she ensures that only fresh durians are delivered from the plantation.

My first taste was the MSW Classic Cake — the brand’s crowning jewel, celebrated as one of Singapore’s best durian cakes. A gentle slice through the vanilla sponge unveiled lush layers (and I mean LAYERS) of SilkyGold™ Mao Shan Wang durian purée, silky and fragrant. Each mouthful offered harmony; the lightness of sponge and cream perfectly complemented the intense, bittersweet durian. Luxurious, balanced, and endlessly satisfying — it’s easy to see why fans can’t stop talking about it. Even my dad (who is not a Durian enthusiast) praised the quality of the durian, and he's a man of very few praises.

Then came the D24 White Mochi, which are small, fun, and full of flavour. The super soft, stretchy mochi skin revealed a cool, creamy durian heart that dissolved gently in the mouth. They are by far the softest Mochi my mum and I have ever had, and they’re lighter than the MSW cake. It's also dangerously easy to pop one after another, which makes them absolutely perfect for sharing or a quick pick-me-up.

It’s easy to see why The Durian Bakery has such a loyal following. Every treat is made with real, high-quality durians and delivered fresh. With rave reviews on Google and a constant social media buzz, their signature cake has become a fan favourite — often dubbed the best durian cake in Singapore. And the best part? They deliver island-wide, making it easier than ever to satisfy those durian cravings! It's a little pricey given its considerably high price point, but this is a treat I certainly would save for special occasions (or if I'm craving durians)
