Kamome Bakery Adventure!!!

 Kamome Bakery Adventure!

Located in the central area of our little red dot, this homely little Japanese bakery cum cafe is one of the closest you can get to an authentic Japanese bakery. It is located just a short 4 minutes walk away from Novena MRT station in Goldhill Plaza and this bakery cafe is also nearby other cafes such as Udders, Craftsmen Speciality Coffee & The Clueless-Goat!

I assumed Kamome has garnered quite the following in Singapore's Japanese community as the first thing I noticed is that there were quite a few Japanese customers. The aroma of freshly baked bread was also very pronounced as we entered the cafe; that was not surprising as there were loaves of freshly baked bread around and that only added to the aesthetics of this Japanese bakery cafe.

I went with two of my friends and was worried that there wasn't any space available as the cafe was very packed but we were lucky to get a sofa seat. While walking to our seats, I appreciated the homely aesthetics of this Japanese bakery cafe as there were freshly baked goods lined in the wooden display cases and the few Japanese books around the cafe only adds to the Japanese feels in the cafe.

The menu offered at Kamome is very limited but I believe that a small menu is always better than an extensive menu as the eatery will have more time and effort catered to each item offered on it. The eight mains displayed on the menu comes with a free hot tea or coffee. A small top-up of $0.50 and you can get hot or iced, latte, cappuccino, or flat white or iced tea.

We decided to get the Teriyaki Burger ($14.90), Hot Sandwich [Cheese & Ham] ($10.90), and the Clam Chowder ($14.90), with two iced earl grey and one hot Morrocan mint green tea. It is also good to know that there will also be no GST or service charge added to the prices shown on the menu.

The drinks came soon after we ordered and do take note that sugar will not be added in the teas but both sugar sticks and sugar syrup will be provided at the counter. This concept is good as customers will be able to control whatever desired sweetness they want. My friends & I all used one serving of sugar each. The earl grey was light and smooth and was a perfect drink for a hot summer day. The Morrocan mint green tea had a nice subtle hint of mint to it which was not too overpowering.

The ham & cheese sandwich was not bad but it is almost impossible to mess up a ham & cheese sandwich as it is the perfect soul food. Although it is pretty average compared to the rest coming up.

The Clam chowder was really wholesome and the bread served with it was also very well made. The bread was not tough and had a hearty bite to it. The bread & the chunky clam chowder complimented each other and this set feels like it was put together really well!

Last but certainly not least is the Teriyaki burger which we all agreed was the best tasting dish. The burger had soft fluffy buns which were freshly baked in-store and despite having teriyaki sauce, the buns were not soaked. The meat to bun ratio was also on point. The beef patty was soft & easy to chew and was generously slathered with the teriyaki sauce. The burger came with asides of fries accompanied with ketchup. This is a must-try dish at Kamome!

Overall, my experience at Kamome checks out all the boxes for a really pleasant experience. Definitely a great place to have lunch and I might even drop by again just to eat the Teriyaki burger again!
