 Ekiben Adventures!

Japanese cuisine is one of the most well-liked cuisines in Singapore & with Singapore's diverse hawker culture; Ebiken combines both authentic Japanese quality & wallet-friendly prices.

Located at Pasir Ris Central Hawker Centre, Ekiben's menu feature a variety of Japanese food ranging from traditional Ramen, yummy Japanese curry, wholesome Bento rice sets and their signature Donburi.

I visited Ekiben twice and had both the dine-in & take-out experiences. Ambience wise, there isn't much to say as it is still a hawker experience (but a very lively vibe & nature-y feels to it!). The main thing is the food, as we know take-outs may slightly alter the food quality (for example your soggy fries from a fast-food take-out). Both times I had was with my friends who were Easties. The owners of the store were very friendly and introduced us to new promotions & recommended us some of the best sellers. Prices were considered steep for your average hawker prices but considering the quality of products served, the slightly higher pricetags were well justified!

Unfortunately, I only have pictures from my second visit, the take-out order, but pictures were taken right after our order was served. We ordered a Gyudon ($6.90), two Aburi Salmon Don ($8.90 each), a garlic fried rice with chicken katsu ($6.90) and an ala carte serving of Aburi Salmon Sushi ($12.00 for 10 pieces). Their Salmon sushi was recommended to us by the owners so we had to give it a try!
The three Donburi are served with gyoza and a side of assorted vegetables. The Gyudon had pickled radishes, cabbage & broccoli while the Aburi Salmon had a wider spectrum of colours for the vegetables (corn, edamame, cherry tomato & Japanese cucumbers all topped with a drizzle of roasted sesame sauce). My garlic fried rice with chicken katsu only had Japanese cucumbers but I'm not really a veggie person so I'm alright with it (though I wouldn't mind some corn on mine).
The owners also helped us pack the sushi on the top as it may be too overcooked if placed at the middle or bottom of the take-out bag. The food served was still warm & tasty despite us taking our time to get back to eat. I had tried the Aburi salmon bowl before and as always it is still very well done with the salmon being torched to perfection. I'm very satisfied with my chicken katsu garlic fried rice as the rice was well seasoned and had just the right amount of garlic in it although garlic lovers might want a stronger hint of garlic. The chicken katsu was also well fried and was both crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Overall none of us had any complaints about our food!
So when visiting Pasir Ris Central Hawker Centre, I do highly recommend trying Ebiken as it certainly does not disappoint!
